Greedy Genius

Thanks to Jeff Staple's blog, we get a sneak peak at a new pair of Greedy Genius sneakers. According to Jeff, this is a collaboration between Greedy Genius and photographer Yonehara Yasumasa. I haven't seen this model before and actually thought they were a pair of Vans when i first saw them. If anyone knows what the model is, feel free to say. Also, what do you guys think that design is of? It looks interesting. Yonehara is also having a show in Chelsea in New York right now. His work really does look interesting.

Mcfly Petition

Ever since 1989, the year that the Michael J. Fox film, Back to the Future II was released, there has been a nostalgic presence in the desire to hold a pair of the futuristic 2015, self-lacing Nikes and the self-drying jacket that Marty Mcfly wore during his trip to the future. With this desire, a petition has risen online to urge Nike to bring their 2015 Nike "Mag" sneakers to market. This petition was created by brothers Charles and Michael Maloof. The URL was formerly found at this address: http://www.mcfly2015.com/

However, browse on over to that site and you will find it no longer exists. What happened? Could it be because of the recent release of the Nike Mcfly Hyperdunks? Possibly. Perhaps the Maloof Brothers feel the goal they set out to meet with this project has been met. I believe these hyperdunks are some of the greatest sneakers of the past few years, but I still am not completely satisfied. I would like to see a pair of Nike Mags eventually. A release date in the year 2015 would be even sweeter.
Next, Nike just needs to get their patent back on the shoes which you can read about here:http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/08/mcfly-2015s-pat.html

Names of Dunks

The day of the hyped up dunk, the dunk that feeds on the hype its consumers create is long gone. Gone are the days of the "Homer", the "Tiffany", and the "pigeon". These days may come back, but for now they are gone and it has affected the sneaker community whether it be for the better or the worse. However, in order to discover why these days are gone, we must look at many aspects of hyped dunks.

We must look at the people who buy them, myself included, the styles or the content of the actual shoes, and their marketing, included with this; their names. I have found that the names of recent dunks either do not create buzz the moment they are heard or simply do not relate to their shoe, and for this reeason do not create buzz. Take the "Brut" Dunk High. A decent shoe, not great but decent. Its name meant nothing or very little to a lot of people, thus it never received a large amount of attention to the point of a New York Post article (you know what I'm talking about). Or how about the silver "Medicom" dunks. They looked good but the name didn't fit the toy company we love.

Then you look at the successful dunks, successful in terms of gaining lots of hype, something bad for people that truly love the sneaker, who find themselves unable to cough up 400 dollars or the risk of getting beat with a bat in line for shoes. The name, "Homer" meant a lot to a lot of people, one of the greatest shows on earth, The Simpsons and when you look at its design, it fits Homer Simpson perfectly. How about the "Tiffany," with its signature blue colorway perfectly matching its inspiration in jewelry and creating a new colorway in its own right, with many people when thinking of "Tiffany," automatically remembering the sneaker. So what do you think? Does the name make the sneaker? Will we begin to see great names again at some point soon?

I am legend prequel on the way

Variety has reported that Warner Bros is on their way to making a new I am Legend film. I loved this film and was absolutely obsessed with it in the weeks following my seeing the film. I thought the storyline was great and fueled my love of post-apocalyptal and apocalyptal movies. In short, i thought it as one of my favorite films of 2007. So, today when Variety reported a prequel has been announced to it, i was ecstatic and still am. Hope this one ends up being a good one, bringing back Francis Lawrence to direct, Akiva Goldsman and James Lassiter to produce, D.B. Weiss to write a script based of the aforementioned names plans, and of course Will Smith to star.

"Fringe" Review

I recently watched the pilot of the new J.J. Abrams show, "Fringe" and was thoroughly impressed. Going into the episode, I had no idea what the series would be about. The show follows an F.B.I. agent forced into working with a scientist formerly held in a mental instituion. Together they undercover strange and unusual phenomena, helping them to solve mysteries and crimes. It may sound cheesy but it was awesome. There were surprises in the storyline around every turn. But a great story isn't great unless executed well on screen. "Fringe" did just that. The J.J. Abrams style truly came through making every ending to a commercial break, eerily intense with sharp instrumental stringing. I am a huge fan of Lost, so expect a lot out of Abrams, and this show pulled through. Check it out on fox.com

September 11, 2001

This post's a little long but bear with me here.

We all remember the day. Where we were, what we were doing. I was at school. My mom took me out early. She and my friend's mom who also took her kid out of school both seemed panicked, as if they knew something we didn't. But at that moment i was happy, I was missing school, and that's all that I knew. When I got home, my au pair said there had been a plane crash. The t.v. was on with the news, but i was really young and didn't think much of it. I thought it was just a plane crash. I would later find out what had happened. A plane had hit the World Trade Center, first one tower then the other. Another plane had hit the Pentagon, and a plane had crashed in a field. I didn't really understand that last part, so different from the rest. I now know with age the courage of those on that flight, Flight 93, of those emergency workers in Manhattan, and of the entire country to come together to help one another after this tragic event. We would never let any terrorist cowards get to us. Just like we never will. Thank you to all of those courageous fighters of September 11, 2001 who have helped preserve the freedom of America. Thank you to those that today are fighting for the American dream. Rest in Peace to those freedom fighters that are no longer with us.

R.I.P.

For the last few months, a young boy named Mikey in my area has been battling a brain tumor and as of late, he was doing better. However, today we received the horribly tragic news that he passed away. Mikey, you will always be remembered for fighting and staying strong. Throughout you have stayed positive, and you are my hero and will always be my hero for doing so.

R.I.P. Grandaddy Marshall

Every once in awhile there are a few great men and women and my grandfather was one of them; a military man who eventually lost his life in the Vietnam War before I got the chance to meet him. I will always be proud and honored to call him my grandad. R.I.P. Grandaddy Marshall.

Nike Sportswear innovator series

The Nike Sportswear website has just released the first of six videos highlighting Andre Iguodala and Questlove talking about Questlove's air force 1. It's a great vid and I'm excited to see the rest of the video series as well. The video quality isn't the best but it works.

Goosebumps film farther along

Columbia Pictures' theatrical adaptaion of the hit R.L. Stine horror series Goosebumps is farther underway after receiving a writing team in the form of Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander.
edit: i have always been a huge fan of the books and didn't particularly like the quality and the way things went about in the direct to video releases (you know things aren't done well when you're scared solely because of the cheap quality) , so i hope this turns out to be great. Good luck to everyone on board.

That's right after all the drooling over the official teaser trailer that dropped on AOL a few weeks ago, Warner Bros has decided to delay the release of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince from November of this year to July 2009. In its place will be the highly anticipated Twilight film from Summit Entertainment.

Major League baseball instant replay

MLB Comissioner Bud Selig has growing interest in the possibility of instant replay as a tool for umpires to use to establish calls. ESPN reports it may be put into place by the end of August. I personally am completely against this. Calls should be made by umpires and umpires only. They make mistakes but that's a part of the game and has been for more than a century. What do you think?

dodgers nearly get two perfect games in same series

In a recent 3-game series between the Los angeles dodgers and the atlanta braves, the dodgers came very close to history when Hiroki Kuroda pitched a perfect game through 7 innings in the series opener followed by Derek Lowe pitching perfect into the 7th in the series finale. Kuroda got the win 3-0 and Lowe got the win as well winning 2-1.

Happy Birthday

Just wanted to give a Happy Birthday shout out to my sister! whoo! Happy birthday!

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

I was just thinking about how there are many bad, negative feelings in the world. And i wondered how we can cut down on these. I decided that many times, the source of the negative mentality is because people take things too seriously. Sure there is legitimate reason to be upset at times, but it could be so much better if we could just let things go. There are small insignificant things that i find my own self pondering angrily.. However, we should stay open-minded. We should think about what we are being angry about and although it may feel good to be angry at that moment, we will regret it later on.

Emotions, even anger are good and part of life.
Just don't let the negative force overcome you for frivolous things.
Sit back and think-in all situations, not just these,
and life will be so much better.
You only have one life to live-live it.

Lost

I personally am a big fan of the show Lost. Last night showed me why. Explosions, a smoke monster, and more weird confusing, and great stuff from the brilliant mind of J.J. Abrams and the rest of the show's crew. If you didn't get to see the episode, it will be on abc.com starting tomorrow as it is every Friday, the day after the episode airs.

-also Lost is now on at 10 ET as opposed to the 9ET before.

R.I.P. Arthur C. Clark

Best known for his collaboration with Stanley Kubrick in 2001: A space Odyssey, science fiction genious, Arthur C. Clark died today, after living for over 30 years in Sri Lanka. Clark was a revolutionary in the SciFi community, predicting, along with other predictions that at some point in the future, man-made satellites would orbit the Earth, long before the first satellites were ever placed in space. He also was one of the first to introduce the concept of a computer gaining control for itself and taking over in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Along with great entertainment, Clark gave this world never before-seen ideas and concepts.

Thank you Mr. Clark and Rest in peace.

Ivory Coast Beats Nigeria

It was a great match with both teams having a lot of oppurtunities and ultimately an amazing goal by Soloman Kalou for The Ivory Coast Elephants. Both teams played great and it will be interesting to see how the rest of Group B and the whole Arican Cup of Nations Tournament turns out.

Africa Cup of Nations:Ivory Coast vs. Nigeria

tomorrow, January 21 is Mali vs. Benin, Namibia vs. Morrocco, and Ivory Coast vs. Nigeria. All these games are good matchups but Nigeria against Ivory Coast! It doesn't get any better than that. Of course part of this opinion could come from my love of Ivoirian soccer!!! Go Elephants!!! Good Luck to both teams and all teams playing throughout the tournament. I'm hoping this will be a good tournament.

the African cup of nations starts Sunday with a Ghana vs guinea match. If anyone is interested in where to watch the games, you can watch them (if you have a pc) at telesud.us it is owned by sportfive which is the official marketing partner of the African cup of nations so it is very official and i'm guessing has pretty good quality video as well.it will set u back about 30 bucks but it's worth it for good African soccer. Good Luck to all the teams throughout the tournament!

i am legend

two words: great movie. Definitely had its corny parts and i would have liked it to be longer but there were some sweet scenes and the storyline was interesting. Will Smith gave a great performance.

iphone software update

Watching the Steve Jobs Apple Keynote, i thought all of the new apple releases were sick, but was especially excited about seeing the iphone software update. So of course, i got the update free via itunes, and it is very cool how you can rearrange icons on your home screen and do other things with the home screen as well. I'm not too fascinated by the new maps features but maybe i have to play with it more. Overall, happy about the download but wish there was more.
